2020

2020 has been an odd year for my and my little family.

COVID didn’t end up really affecting our area until later in the year, mostly impacted toilet paper for us and it was mostly from tourists. My work went remote fairly early and I used that time to get myself back into a standard rhythm for myself and the pups, with more walks! I made fitness and time with the pups my priority, besides work. My meal prepping Sundays got a tad out of hand, but was still happening. I felt good and in control…

But in August – We moved back to the New England area due to a variety of circumstances. I was able to keep my job and work remotely due to COVID. C managed to get a new job pretty quickly. We’re still trying to adjust to our new norm.

Admittedly, this year hasn’t gone as planned.

I had a lot of goals to get through and not many actually came to fruition. That’s ok!

It hard to look back and not be disappointed by the lack of progression, but in this case… we did a lot.

  • We moved across the country with three dogs
  • We had our first camping experience with the dogs. Susanoo stole C’s sleeping mat and made him sleep on the ground
  • We had our first hotel experience with the dogs. Susanoo pooped throughout the entire hotel on our way out. Poor boy was a tad too scared of the new environment.
  • The dogs got to experience their first really snowstorm with about 18 inches of snow
  • C and I got to feel my great grandmother’s house settle about an inch and I got to see it scare our friends who were with us
  • We got our first outside hiking gear so we could walk the dogs during winter
  • C paid of some debt
  • I paid off some debt
  • We’re finally saving money!

It’s odd to see a year summarized into a few special moments or events, but I think its enough to feel good about for now.

Lets hope 2021 is kinder.

A New Month

Good morning, everyone!

Its the start of a new month which mean new goals for me! Each month I try to focus on some goals to complete as a way to keep myself motivated. I use Google Keep as a way to sort of keep track of all of my goals and mark when I’ve completed them.

Each goal is focused on some aspect of my life, whether it be my health,  relationships, crafts, or my career. It always good to have a wide range of goals to make sure you’re developing entire self rather than just one part.

What are your goals for this month?

Dream Job

Hi, everyone!

I received some amazing news this week – I was offered a position at local college!

I am beyond excited about this opportunity. My goal for this year was to get a job that within the higher education industry, just as a starting place. I wasn’t expecting to get into a technical position so quickly. I can say, I’ve never been more thrilled!
I’ve chosen to not share this on any social media sites and only share the information with close family members. I’m going to be honest – I am a tad scared of jinxing myself out of this opportunity.

I’ll post more about my new position as I get closer to my official start date… but

YAY!!!

Lack of Focus with Pattern Creation

I’ve been working on one pattern for the past few days and honestly, I have no focus on it. The concept is really cool. I think people will like it, but I can’t seem to just get it done. Its going to take some time and that is not including stitching time.

I’ve been trying my best to work on it for about an hour a day, or more. Its always on my to-do list. I am thinking I might need to move to an additional pattern to dilute this project some with something less extensive.

I think I might make a pattern focused on Gundams! I have a a bunch of models and I think it would be neat to have some of my favorites commemorated in cross stitch form! Another idea is one I got from Reddit, a cross stitch of the first two houses Cody and I’ve lived at, lastly a mock-up of a design my dad did!

Just another Friday

Happy Friday, everyone!

I’m preparing for an interview this coming week for at a local college, but otherwise I start a new job next week!  What are some good things going on in your life?

I’ve started designing a new cross stitch pattern that is probably going to take me awhile. I’m using PCStitch to design the initial concept and chose the initial colors. Once I’m done on that front, I’ll begin actually stitching and making adjustments to the design (while recording the changes I make). I’ve noticed the colors displayed in PCStitch don’t always match the colors of the actual floss, which makes it a tad challenging and explains my time-consuming process. This pattern is going to involve Mario and Pokemon!

I’m hoping to start another pattern, as well. Something smaller and less time consuming to ensure I have content over the next few weeks ^.^ I’m still not 100% sure what I want to do, but I’m thinking something focusing on Overwatch or League of Legends.

This week was the start of a new graduate course for me – Focus is website construction and UI. First week has been fun and the people in my course seem incredibly interesting! A friend of mine, Sean, has been independently studying HTML and CSS so I might get to work through some things with him and we can learn together!
